WEATHER
Listed below is the "default" weather for each season. Unless otherwise marked on the calendar, each day within a season will have this weather:

• SUMMER: 70-75 F, clear skies with a warm breeze outside of the forest


• AUTUMN: 45-55 F, cloudy and sporadic drizzling with a cool wind blowing in off the lake


• WINTER: 15-25 F, overcast with no breeze, intermittent snow


• SPRING: 60-65 F, clear with strong gusts felt even deep within the forest, very windy near the lake

THE PARADE

The Parade is in town! No longer stuck in the previously-undiscovered downtown Beacon, the Parade is now indefinitely marching around the map!

This lively bunch of forest spirits has assembled to form a parade chock-full of every spectacle one could imagine: floats that glow with some sort of bioluminescence, acrobats and dancers, stilt-walkers, fire-eaters (where did they get those torches...?), a marching band, forest spirits tossing candy and bead necklaces and party favors at any passing spectators... Is this Mardi Gras? Carnevale? Halloween? Who can say! The spirits seem to have pulled inspiration from all walks of life. Similarly, they're always playing some sort of upbeat, parade-ish music, with songs ranging from jaunty with a side of creepy to kinda cute to straight shitpost.

Once characters are close enough to hear the music of the Parade, they'll begin to feel an odd mix of emotions. The sound is uncomfortable to the point of almost fear-inducing, and yet, characters are drawn to it, compelled to move closer if they can overcome the discomfort.

Once the Parade is in view, the fear is replaced entirely by an overwhelming compulsion to join the procession. Not a partier by nature? Too bad! Now sounds like a great time to start! Any concerns about safety and potentially hostile forest spirits and being a dead person in a dead world are whisked away by the majesty of the Parade, such a sight to behold, and it would be so very easy to give in and forget all their troubles forever...

These are probably fine things to feel, not worrying in the slightest!

Anyway, here's the deets on how this mechanic works OOCly:

• Think of the Parade like a traveling monster. The Parade will move in a wide circle around Beacon, starting in North Beacon from the 1-10th of the month before moving to East Beacon from the 11-20th of the month, and finally to West Beacon from the 21st until the end of the month. Rinse repeat! There's a handy map at the bottom of this post to quickly reference where the Parade is tromping around.


• It's up to you, dear player, to decide whether or not you want to deal with the Parade in your everyday RPing. Just because the Parade is in your character's neck of the woods doesn't mean you're obligated to deal with it! Beacon is large enough that you may readily handwave that the Parade is just not near your specific location. This mechanic is intended to be opt-in, except in the case of explorations. We'll get to that in a minute.


• The rules of the Parade are as follows: Hearing the Parade may serve as a warning for characters to get the heck out of dodge, as there's no way to stop the procession from advancing. Seeing the Parade is never safe, as it will compel characters to join and resisting this urge is very difficult. Additionally, if the Parade sees you... Either your character will give into the compulsion to join the Parade and will party themselves to death, or your character will miraculously resist the temptation... only to be mauled by the procession because, like, how dare you not party with them? Point is, engaging with the Parade in any way will result in death. That said, the specific details of Parade-induced death have not yet been revealed as no one's triggered that trap card yet! Guess you'll have to die to learn those deets. You're free to play with this mechanic to your heart's content, just please keep these rules in mind and let us know if your character dies from it! We'll let you know some bonus details when you submit the death.


• The only safe way to avoid the Parade is to hide when you hear it coming! So long as characters stay out of sight as the Parade passes by (and they're able to resist the music-induced temptation to join), they're good to go. What a great excuse for a bottle episode! RPers love that shit.


• However, explorations in the part of town where the Parade is currently partying will be extra dangerous, as the Parade gets all the forest spirits in the area extra revved up! If you're feeling bloodthirsty and want to subject your character to a Brutality Mode exploration, you'll want to pay special attention to the parade route below when submitting said explore. Parade route explorations will be warned right off the bat that they're in dangerous territory and that the involved characters may be seriously injured or killed at any time. This may happen as a result of nasty forest spirits, or characters may encounter the Parade itself. RNG will make those decisions.
